Staff (quarterstaff), artifact (requires attunement by a creature whose wisdom score is above 11.)

"The cane of humbling was created by the Wise Wizard Wocken. Who tired of the incessant blathering and carousing of adventurers that stumbled into his favorite Tavern. He turned his favorite walking stick into an artifact that would silence those who spoke before they thought. When adventurers would drone on and on about their jewels and gems or the monster they slew. With a few swift taps he could calm a room, so he could enjoy his hearty brew." - A muted bard

The cane possesses powers to be feared by those whom are unwise or unwary.

  • If you tap the cane on the ground with a swift knock, will cast Silence in a 120 foot radius centered from the artifact. This effect lasts until you lift the cane from the ground, or otherwise move it.
  • A creature struck by the cane with a WIS score below 12 must save vs. WIS, DC 20 falling unconscious for 1 hour on a failed save, or becoming mute until dawn if successful.
  • The attuned will always choose the correct path to take if concentrating during a short rest on what the wisest choice would be.
  • Charges may be spent to produce the following effects:
    • (1 Charge) casts Comprehend Languages on yourself, its effects last until Dawn.
    • (3 Charges) casts Dominate Person, (no saving throw required) the effects last until Dawn.
    • (5 Charges) casts Hold Monster (no saving throw required).
    • (7 Charges) casts Modify Memory (no saving throw required).
    • (11 Charges) casts Imprisonment on a target you can see or hear (no saving throw required).

(The cane weighs a number of pounds equal to 20 minus it's wielders WIS score. Anyone who attempts to carry it with a WIS score below 12 becomes fatigued after 1 hour.)

When the cane becomes attuned to a character for the first time, it receives charges equal to that characters WIS score. It retains the charges of it's previous owners if they have not been spent. When the last charge is spent, the cane reverts to an ordinary walking staff and all magical properties become lost.

Upon being found, it will have (2D12+1) charges, in addition to the charges gained from attuning to it.

Proficiency with a Quarterstaff allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
