Staff (quarterstaff), legendary (requires attunement by a Requires attunement by a sorcerer, wizard, or warlock.)

This long, heavy staff is made of a smooth black stone and is permanently cold to the touch. While wielding or carrying this object, a good-aligned creature feels an overwhelming sense of revulsion, regret, and disgust. A neutral aligned creature feels oddly uncomfortable, as if being imposed upon.

While wielded by an evil creature, the staff is instead permanently warm to the touch, and fills the wielder with a sense of power and clarity.

Beneficial Properties.

While the staff is on your person, you gain the following benefits:

  • Your proficiency bonus to Intelligence (Arcana) and Intelligence (History) checks is doubled.
  • Undead with a challenge rating of 2 or lower will neither threaten nor attack you unless you harm them.
  • You can wield the staff as a +1 quarterstaff that deals an extra 7 (2d6) necrotic damage on a hit.

This weapon can be used with one or two hands. A damage value in parentheses appears with the property—the damage when the weapon is used with two hands to make a melee attack.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.
