Weapon (rapier), legendary

This ancient saber was once used by a hero-king long ago to liberate an oppressed people from tyranny, and is now revered as a god by his kingdom. The king had 5 of these swords, and he gave one to each of his sons and daughters at his deathbed. Each blade is imbued with the king's soul and passion. 

These sabers were thought to be lost to time and faded into legend, but they lie dormant in the ruins of castles, strongholds, and the like. If someone were to come across one of these weapons, they would not be able to unsheath the blade. Close examination would show a worn and battered sword that appears to have some immense, slumbering power. 

When the holder or a nearby ally commits an act of incredible selflessness and heroism, or displays and defends their ideals, the sword awakens and calls to the hero. This person can unsheath the saber, revealing a shimmering platinum blade that glows a faint, unearthly light. It remains this way until the immediate battle is over, where it returns to its worn state and locks in its sheath like before when put away. It can be awakened with the above method an infinite amount of times by anyone. A player can figure out how to awaken the blade by making a DC 20 Arcana check or by studying the blade for 8 total hours.

While awakened, the sword is a +3 one-handed longsword with the finesse property and the wielder can use it with proficiency. It has the following abilities:

Unbreaking Resilience: While you are passionately defending their aspirations and companions, the sword gives its aid. This weapon cannot be used by anyone except you, and it cannot be disarmed or sheathed in any way while in combat.

Additionally, when the blade is initially unsheathed, you gain temporary hit points equal to double your total level, and you recover from any disease or condition (including exhaustion) that affected you beforehand.

Thundering Spirit: As a bonus action, you cause a wave of force to knock away your adversaries. The wave takes the shape of a 15 foot cube directly in front of you, and any enemies in the area are pushed back 15 feet.

Divine Shield: As a reaction upon being targeted with an attack or any effect that would deal damage, you can cause an unearthly shield to cover your body, giving you a bonus to your AC equal to your Proficiency bonus and resistance to all damage you your next turn.

Tenacity of the Liberator: If you area killed while wielding this weapon, then you gain the effects of a True Resurrection spell with no material cost. Once this ability is used, the glow of the blade fades for the user, and that person cannot use this effect again. They can however still use the other abilities of the sword.

Proficiency with a Rapier allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.


This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
