The Axe of the Battlelord is a wicked looking single bladed bearded Greataxe, with a blood channel on either side of the blade following the razor sharp edge. The backside has a protruding eight inch spike for balance. The long wooden haft is emblazoned with decorative flames that run its entire length.
You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
If you speak the prayer "A Fiery Death to All Who Oppose Me", the blade is engulfed in magical flames that do an additional 1d8 damage. These flames last until the end of combat, or the wielder says "My Thirst is Slaked".
As long as this weapon is equipped, the bearer has advantage on Constitution Saving Throws.
Temperate. The bearer suffers no harm in temperatures as low as -20 degrees and as high as 120 degrees.
Conscientious. When the bearer of this item contemplates or undertakes a malevolent act, the item enhances pangs of conscience. While it thirsts for battle, it does not thirst for unchecked evil.
Emboldened. This weapon has an affinity for slaying large foes, when the wielder faces them with courage regardless of their intimidating size. When you hit a creature of size large or higher with it, the creature takes an extra 1d6 damage of the weapon's type and must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or fall prone.
Spells. In addition, the bearer of the weapon can cast Death Ward once per day, and the spell recharges at Dawn with a daily rededication to Tempus, the Battle Lord. The bearer of the weapon can cast Heroes' Feast. The charge will not restore until a prayer to Tempus on the Third Day at Dawn. On the third day, roll a d6. On a 1-3, the charge does not restore. On a 4-6, the charge restores. If the charge fails to restore, you can re-roll the following day at dawn. The random chance represents the dual nature of Tempus, the Battlelord, whose favor and purpose are often inscrutable.
Proficiency with a Greataxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Cleave. If you hit a creature with a melee attack roll using this weapon, you can make a melee attack roll with the weapon against a second creature within 5 feet of the first that is also within your reach. On a hit, the second creature takes the weapon’s damage, but don’t add your ability modifier to that damage unless that modifier is negative. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
