Armor (half plate), legendary

This armor resembles a suit of unusual half-plate armor, with finely articulated joints connected by an oily, black, leather-like material. The armor has dense plates in key locations and fine chain-weave between. Its sleek helm is unusual in that it has no openings — only a thin glass plate. Strange plates, tubing, and large metal bosses adorn the armor in a seemingly random fashion.

The armor acts as a mundane suit of half-plate armor when on the Material Plane. When the armor is present in the Nine Hells it harnesses Abyssal energy to become powered armor. The armor attaches to you and can't be removed against your will. It also expands to cover your entire body, although you can retract or deploy the helmet as a bonus action. The armor replaces any missing limbs, functioning identically to a limb it replaces.

While wearing this armor, you gain the following benefits:

  • You have a +1 bonus to AC.
  • Your Strength score is 18 (this has no effect if your Strength is already 18 or higher).
  • You have advantage on constitution saving throws.
  • You have advantage on strength checks and saving throws.
  • You have advantage on athletics checks.
  • You have immunity to poison damage.
  • You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from non-magical weapons.

The armor has charges equal to your proficiency bonus. Each charge may be used to power the armor's integrated systems or weapons. This armor has the following integrated system which can be activated as a bonus action:

  • Launch distracting flares to allow an allied creature within 30ft to immediately use its full movement. The creature still triggers attacks of opportunity, but you grant disadvantage on the first attack. You may spend additional charges to grant disadvantage to additional attacks during the ally's movement.
  • As a reaction, before learning the result of an enemy attack, you may activate a deflector shield, granting a +5 to AC until the end of your next turn.

The armor regains all charges after a short or long rest.

Half plate consists of shaped metal plates that cover most of the wearer's body. It does not include leg protection beyond simple greaves that are attached with leather straps.
