Where is Kalen? Where did my father go? I miss Father so much. Can we be family?
Forged by amateur weaponsmith Kalen the Younger, a Halfling Rogue, as a gift for his younger daughter Aethis, he meant for it to be presented to her on the eve of her sixteenth birthday. Tragedy struck, however, when the day came, leading to the death of his daughter, he was inconsolable. Desperate to not lose her soul, but knowing her body was irrecoverable, he made a deal with the first entity that reached out to him, which attached her soul to a dagger that would never leave him.
The dagger was suffused with her nature and took on her personality, traits, and quirks, including a young, feminine voice. It seeks companionship, validation, and comfort, and as such can be a bit needy, but also does its very best to stay with and protect its wielder.
Charm Target: When this dagger successfully damages a sentient, humanoid target, you can expend a single charge to cast 'Charm Person' on the injured target at first level. DC 16 Wisdom Save to resist. Even in combat, the victim will become fiercely loyal to the person attuned to the dagger, to the point of protecting them in combat. Any damage taken by a target friendly to you breaks the spell. Any damage taken by a creature hostile to you will allow a DC 14 Wisdom Save to break the spell. Does not have to be used as part of a direct attack.
Recall: When thrown, the knife will work to return itself to your side (sheathed) within two turns, automatically (via teleport). As a bonus action, the wielder can choose to summon it back to their hand immediately.
Cursed:
- DM's choice if this is the case - details may be adjusted, omitted, or the like at DM's pleasure
- The mind within is extremely co-dependant on its wielder and becomes more and more eager to 'help' their new 'parent', to the point of making suggestions during battle, complaining when a weapon other than them is used, and the like.
- Once attuned, the dagger will actively resist being unattuned. An attempt to remove attunement to the item will require a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw (advantages, if any, ignored). Upon a failure, the wielder is treated as charmed by the blade and will appear to change their mind. This charm effect will last for 24 hours unless magically removed.
- Any attempt by a third party to remove or steal the dagger from the wielder, while attuned, will trip the same saving throw as above. A failure will result in the wielder turning violently on the thief. The wielder will not stand down until knocked out, or the charm effect is dispelled.
- If the charm is dispelled, the knife will attempt to reapply it, at a DC 1 less than the previous attempt at the top of each round. If the charm is successfully resisted, it will do the same. This will persist until the wielder is successful in resisting three times in sequence. A failure does not impact the DC on later attempts.
- While charmed by the curse, the Recall feature of the dagger becomes a reaction instead of a bonus action and must be used automatically if separated from the dagger before the beginning of your next turn.
- The Charm Target special effect of the blade is secretly cumulative. Any party who is charmed more than three times (regardless of time passing between uses) by the blade will find themselves under an 8th level Geas Spell (DC 21 Wisdom save to resist) with an effective command to Serve the Wielder of Aethis with Loyalty, to the point of obsession.
Proficiency with a Dagger allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Nick. When you make the extra attack of the Light property, you can make it as part of the Attack action instead of as a Bonus Action. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
