Attached to the roughly crafted wand by a bit of twine is a handwritten tag incorrectly labeling it as Wand of Speak with Dead.

The wand has 3 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 2 of its charges to send a short message of twenty-five words or less to your dad. You can send the message across any distance and even to other planes of existence, but if the target is on a different plane than you, there is a 5 percent chance that the message doesn't arrive. Your dad hears the message in his mind, recognizes you as the sender, and can answer in a like manner immediately if he is both alive and on the same plane of existence as you. 

The wand regains 1d2 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the wand blackens, crumbles into cinders, and is destroyed.
