This unassuming map is a powerful tool for the magical study of history. It resembles a square map on parchment paper when its magical properties are not being used, albeit somewhat aged-looking in appearance.
The map has 3 charges, and it regains 1d3 expended charges daily at dawn. You can expend a charge to use it in the following ways while holding it:
Ancient Geography. While holding the map you can name or describe a place. The map attempts to reformat itself to draw a path from your location to the place described.
The map is accurate but might be vague, or accurate to the up to several hundred years ago instead of to the modern day. How recent the information displayed by the map is, is determined by how detailed the description is, and how well-known the place is by the majority of people in the modern day. For example if you describe a lost city that you have very little information about, which most people have never heard of, the map be accurate to the time period from before that city was lost. You can use the map in this way for up to 12 hours, and then the image fades and is replaced by the map's normal appearance.
Visions of History. While holding the map up in front of you, you can attempt to view the history of a place through the map acting as a lens. The map becomes transparent, and through it you can see what the area viewed through the map would've looked 1d100 x 10 years ago. Things which are no longer visible in the present but are seen in the past through the map appear like ethereal, ghostly images rather than being fully there. You can look through the map in this way for up to 10 minutes, and then the image fades and is replaced by the map's normal appearance.
Notes: Scrying, Detection, Utility, Exploration, divination
