Weapon (dagger), uncommon (requires attunement by a Cleric of the Death domain, a Warlock of the Undead or Undying, or a Wizard of the Necromancy school)

A ritual knife carved from bone and inscribed with necromantic runes. A Cleric, Warlock, or Wizard acquainted with the magic of death may simultaneously craft and attune to such an article. Doing so requires a 1 lb bone from a small or medium sized creature, or a bone taken from the Armour of the Fallen, and a ritual performed over one hour or as part of a long rest. The practitioner who crafts and attunes to the Athame of the Fallen is proficient with it. If they become unattuned to it, the magic of the knife dissipates and it becomes an ordinary if ornately carved dagger.

You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. In addition, when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack made using the Athame of the Fallen, you may expend a 1st level spell slot to add 1d12 necrotic damage to the attack. This damage ignores resistance and immunity to necrotic damage.

If you roll a natural 1 on an attack roll with the Athame of the Fallen, the knife breaks and its magic dissipates.

Optional Rule: Sacrificial Tool. If you deal this necrotic damage to a target that is restrained or unconscious, or to a willing victim, the attack deals twice as much necrotic damage (4d12 on a critical). If the target dies as a result of this attack, you gain 5 temporary hit points that last until you finish a long rest. You may have a maximum number of temporary hit points gained in this way equal to 5 x your proficiency modifier. If your sacrifice is in the name of a god, you have a 10% chance of gaining the attention and possible approval of the named god. The DM makes the roll in secret and decides if you are aware of the success or failure of the sacrifice, and how such a success manifests.

You should talk to your DM and your fellow players before deciding on this optional feature as not everyone will be comfortable with such themes.

Proficiency with a Dagger allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Nick. When you make the extra attack of the Light property, you can make it as part of the Attack action instead of as a Bonus Action. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.

Notes: Bonus: Magic, Cleric of the Death domain, a Warlock of the Undead or Undying, or a Wizard of the Necromancy school, Damage, Combat, Finesse, Light, Thrown, Nick
