Ring of Abjuration

This ring that once belonged to the famous archwizard Assan is crafted out of the finest mithril and beset with 10 sapphires of the deepest blue.

When attuned, the wearer has Counterspell prepared at all times if that spell is on his or her spell list. In addition, when using Counterspell to counter a spell, the ring absorbs part of that spells magical energy, thus gaining one charge per spell level of the countered spell. The ring can hold up to 10 charges total and every charge causes one of the gems to shine in a dim blue light. As a reaction, the wearer of the ring may use 5 charges to cast Shield on a target within 30 feet.
