Wondrous Item, varies

A Soul Stone is designed to harbor a creature's soul in the untimely event of their death. By using a specific sigil sequence, an individual can transfer their soul into a gem either immediately or it can be designed to transfer at the moment of death, providing a level of longevity when one's physical life is taken. However, a Soul Stone cannot make one immortal. A Soul Stone can only hold one's essence for a set amount of time before the raw power of a living soul destroys it. If the gem were to be destroyed with a soul, a "spiritual glitch" would occur, indefinitely trapping the victim in the Ethereal Border, with no hope to pass to the afterlife.

The process of creating a Soul Stone is a simple yet tedious undertaking. It requires a precious gem, the sigil sequence, the "Animus Ultra" ritual, and the blood sacrifice of a willing target. A gemstone is carved into with the sigil and so is the physical body of the target, while blood is dropped onto the stone and absorbed. A spellcaster carries out the Animus Ultra ritual, binding the stone and soul together. During this time, the target has 24 hours to undo the ritual or will be forcefully absorbed into the stone. To transfer the soul to another body, the process is repeated.

While a body is possessed by the soul of another through the Animus Ultra process, a link cannot be established between the material plane and the soul. Thus, the body will begin to decay over time. Healing spells will fix this, but the decay will only speed up over time. Resurrections or other necromantic arcana can permanently solve this by resurrecting the soul and finally linking the soul to the material plane.
