The capture devices are small receptacles, crafted with magic to be able to contain the soul of the target creature. The device must be faceted with a gem, and the value of the gem is directly proportional to the challenge rating of the monsters it can capture. Higher quality capture devices also provide bonuses to the capture attempt.

Each capture device can only hold a single soul at a time. If a device becomes damaged, it loses its enchantment, and any soul bound to it will be permanently dispelled. A capture device can only be utilized once per day, including both capturing and summoning (a creature cannot be captured and later summoned on the same day.)
To capture a creature's soul, the Capture Soul spell must be cast as a reaction to this device hitting the target creature.
A capture device could be created to be used against a specific type of creature. If this is done, a further +5 bonus is granted when trying to capture a soul of the corresponding creature type. However, it then cannot be used to capture any other type of creature’s soul. (e.g. A Level 3 Device of Dragon Capture confers a +7 bonus to capturing the soul of a dragon, but cannot capture the souls of beasts, elementals, or monstrosities).
A captured soul can be summoned by use of the Summon Soul spell.
