This ragged guidebook has designs of twisting paths that trail off into nothingness. The edges are frayed, and the book has seen better days. When opened (and not attuned), it seems like a generic self-help book, though with very dark twists that seem counterintuitive and hypocritical in the most unhelpful of ways.
When attuned, the guidebook will shift to reflect the circumstances the attuned creature is facing. When opened by the attuned, the Atlas of Deadends gives them a thorough guide for the worst possible outcomes given their current situation. This property can only be used roughly once every week at the DM's discretion, as the guidebook won't change the advice it gives if the attuned creature's circumstances have not changed much.
