Constructed by mysterious artificers in the Mournland, The Ethereal Clockwork Heart is a coveted artifact made of three concentric gold rings spinning and revolving around a ghostly beating heart made of ethereal mist.
Attunement
The Ethereal Clockwork Heart attunes to any solid matter of more than 1 cubic foot it touches for 10 rounds. The artifact sears, burns, and burrows through the host who must make a Constitution Save vs DC 25 or suffer 2d6 necrotic and psychic damage or material damage. Warforged, Clockwork Soul Sorcerers, Chronomancers, and Clerics of Mechanus are immune to the negative effects of attunement. *Non-sentient matter that inadvertently gets attuned rise as Clockwork Constructs made of relevant material (Stone, Metal, Wood, Earth, Ceramic, Glass, Bone, Flesh, Adamantine)
Unattunement requires the death or destruction of the host. Alternatively, a Remove Curse and the forcible extraction of The Ethereal Clockwork Heart may also remove attunement. The extraction process requires a Death Saving Throw. Survival puts the host at a number of hitpoints equal to one rolled hit die for their class.
Note: Immediately after unattunment, the artifact must be handled, suspended in non-matter or through spells, to avoid its re-attunement to creatures and material.
Hypothesized Purpose
Rumors abound that there once existed the House of Time ruled by the family d'Chron. Together with House of Cannith and Lyrandar they too attempted to harness and bind the elementals from the planes of Mechanus and Temporal Prime to a Khyber matrix but to disastrous results. The entire line of the d'Chron family was wiped from existence. Had the magical experiments been successful, the House of Chron may have been able to rise to influence with the employment of new technologies in the ways of travel and weaponry. Modern scholars and sages have traced The Clockwork Ethereal Heart as the engine powering early Warforged factories.

Destruction

At that point it is weak enough to be broken by another artifact, high-level magic or psychic attacks, and/or the celestial powers of deities.
