The black rings of this mail are tightly packed, ready to stop everything from swords to arrows. It weighs practically nothing, and offers protection far beyond what any chain shirt can possibly provide. This armor works like a +2 Chain shirt.
Even when a strike manages to get through this powerful armor, it is as if the wounds simply don't happen. They are healed instantly, leaving the wearer none the worse for wear.
But the terrible secret is that the armor doesn't actually heal the wearer. Rather, it transfers the damage. To their loved ones. Keep track of every point of damage that is healed by this armor. When the wearer next returns to his or her loved ones, they find them all dead. A simple investigation check (DC 12) will make it clear what caused all of these deaths.
As soon as there are no more loved ones to transfer the damage to, the healing property stops working.
This armor cannot be removed once it is attuned by anything short of a Greater Restoration spell. Attempting to remove it feels as though the character is peeling off his own skin. Forcible attempts to remove it causes 2d10 necrotic damage per attempt to pull it off. Once 100 damage has been dealt in this way, the armor can be removed, but it will return to the body after the next long rest.
If the wearer makes new friends and has a new family, the healing property begins to work again, with the same results.
Made of interlocking metal rings, a chain shirt is worn between layers of clothing or leather. This armor offers modest protection to the wearer's upper body and allows the sound of the rings rubbing against one another to be muffled by outer layers.
