Weapon (maul), very rare (requires attunement)

If you enjoy fighting and drinking, why not combine the two?

The ABV Maul is a simple concept; it is a 10 litre ale barrel attached to the shaft of a maul. The ale barrel is magically reinforced and bound, so it cannot be separated from the shaft at any time unless a command word is spoken (of the users choice, chosen when attuning to the item). When the word is spoken a second time, the barrel and shaft will magically reattach once more.

When used in combat, it performs the same as a standard maul, however the user of the ABV Maul gains a +3 to attack and damage rolls. The maul also grants the user the 'Douse' ability:

Douse

As a bonus action, the user may open or close the barrel before they begin their round of attack(s). Regardless of whether the attack(s) hit or miss, all creatures within a 5ft radius of the user are doused with alcohol, and are considered flammable if the alcohol is strong enough (Must be considered a strong spirit). If a creature is ignited in this manner, they take 2d4 fire damage at the beginning of their turn, and must spend an action to put themselves out. Otherwise, the burning lasts for 1 minute.

At the end of your turn after doing so, the barrel will empty by 10%. If the barrel becomes empty, you can no longer douse anyone with alcohol and the damage dealt with the weapon is reduced by 1d4 until it is refilled to at least 10%.

v1.1 Changes:

  • Fire damage upon ignition from Douse reduced from 2d6 to 2d4.
  • Grammatical adjustments to item description.
  • The Barrel now has a capacity of 10 litres, and each use of Douse will reduce the amount of alcohol within the barrel by 1 litre (10%).
  • Refill minimum for barrel reduced from 100% to 10%.

Proficiency with a Maul allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.

Notes: Bonus: Magic, Combat, Heavy, Two-Handed, Topple
