Weapon (shortbow), artifact (requires attunement)

Once a Violin, now reshaped to fit it's wielders whim. It takes on the appearance of a bow made of burning charcoal. Veins of embers run along the body and ash gently follows any arrow shot from its silvery bowstring. The gentle sound of a mournful violin can be heard when the bow is nocked.

A creature that attempts to use Anathema without being attuned to it must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or take 2d4 psychic damage.

You can draw the bow with no arrow, aim, and cast a single target spell that causes its target to take a saving throw. As the bowstring releases a discordant noise rings outwards, affecting a single target within sight of you imposing disadvantage on the spells save. Doing so causes 1d4 necrotic damage to the user, increasing to 1d6 for a 3rd lvl spell, 2d4 for a fourth level spell, 2d6 for a 5th, and an additional d6 for each spell level past 5th.

All spells cast while attuned to Anathema and that deal damage of a certain type now deal necrotic damage instead. If the spell already deals necrotic damage add 2 additional damage dice to the total damage. These damage die are not affected by critical hits.

A legendary instrument once wielded by Rodderick of Ravenmire. During his performance of the Ballad of Eondrite the violin warped and changed into something unnatural. It was given the name Anathema and hidden away by Rodderick in fear of what it could do. Found by "Iris" Mesrina Amethyst and reshaped into a bow, the legacy of Rodderick has once again resurfaced into the world as he once feared it would.

This item gives off an unholy aura

Cursed:

  • Playing this item curses the user to a cruel fate. Once played, you and the instrument are bonded and it will not recognize any other master. You can only un-attune this item once you die. After you first play this cursed item you begin to slowly corrode and fade away; like a burning log becoming charcoal. The user must make a con save (dc14) at the dawn of each day or permanently have their total health reduced by 1d4. If your HP is reduced to 0 this way, your body dissolves as if hit by a disintegrate spell. The negative health total can be reversed by a greater restoration spell, though this does not remove the curse nor prevent further health loss from the curse.
  • This curse can only be lifted by destroying the artifact or with the use of a wish spell.
  • Using any other instrument causes violent jealousy and rage within Anathema, causing the attuned player to take 4d6 psychic damage.
  • Destroying this artifact requires special conditions currently unknown.

Proficiency with a Shortbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.

Notes: Stacking Bonus: Charisma Score, Bonus: Magic, Healing, Damage, Control, Buff, Utility, Combat, Cursed, Instrument, Ammunition, Range, Two-Handed, Vex
