Weapon (crossbow, hand), common

This weapon has different statistics than listed. This weapon will require building a custom action on Dndbeyond. Your DM will help you. It's short range is 5 ft x your proficiency bonus. It's maximum range is 60 ft. The damage of this weapon is Piercing. This weapon benefits from your Dexterity bonus, and requires proficiency in Firearms to add your proficiency to your attack rolls. This weapon deals 1d8 + Dexterity modifer x 1d4 damage within it's short range increment, and 1d8 × 1d4 within it's long range. Adjacent creatures to a long range target must make a Dexterity save (DC Attack Roll) or take 1/2 damage. This occurs whether the attack hits the initial target or not.

Scattershot

When this weapon hits a target within It's short range, a number of pellets equal to 1d8+ Dexterity modifier hit the target. Each pellet deals 1d4 piercing damage.

When a target is outside the scattergun's short range, but within it's maximum range, the number of pellets that strike the target is determined by 1d8 only. When attacking at long range (but not past the maximum range), the spread of the scattershot can hit additional targets. Adjacent creatures must make a Dexterity save, the DC of which is the initial attack roll, or take 1/2 damage. This occurs if the initial attack hits or misses, but not if the weapon jams.

This weapon always deals maximum damage to structures, within it's short range increment.

On a critical hit, the number of pellets fired by the scattergun is not increased.

Complex Weaponry

When making attacks with this weapon, it must be loaded after each shot. Loading requires an attack action.

When rolling an attack with this weapon, if the die roll naturally shows a 1 or a 2, the weapon jams, and requires an attack action to repair it. The ammunition is not expended.

Brilliant Design

This weapon is rare, and is valuable to build. Each scattergun is built from machined parts, and should be valued at well above 2000 gold pieces.

Proficiency with a Hand Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
