This item takes the form of an arcane focus and can be used as such. While attuned to this item, you learn the Fire Bolt and Shocking Grasp cantrips. 

As an action, you can throw the item and command it to take it's familiar form and it becomes a creature under your control as if you cast the spell Find Familiar. While in it's familiar form, it cannot be used as a focus. If the familiar's hit points is reduced to 0, it reverts to it's focus form instead of disappearing and cannot change forms again until the next dawn.

You can also command it revert to it's focus form as an action.
