Agorathora was a great mage of a plane of magic, she was so gifted with the arcane arts she could bend the plane to her will to such a degree that she was named "The Apostle of Mystra". Despite all her power, she couldn't conquer death and she knew the day would come when she would pass on from this life, and leave her power behind. Agorathora would not settle for this fate and devised a plan. Through much study she found a way to trap a part of her soul on the mortal plane, making her the second lich after Acererak. She lived well pass her years becoming even more powerful. Eventually the people of the plane feared that her cheating of death would anger the gods and chose to enlist the help of an Elven Magic Forger named Neldor Liapeiros to make an item that could capture Agorathora's soul and pass her on to the next life, he did so and thus created a magic set of chains. The people of the plane took these chains and then confronted Agorathora, defeating her, and captured her soul in the chains. The chains came to be known as "Agorathora's Binding Chains" as they passed from hand to hand, capturing millions of souls of the undead(and in some cases the still living) through the many millennia. At some time a lantern was added to the end of the chains, earning the chains their other name, "The Leading Lantern". The chains were lost for a time, as many believe the magic has faded to nothing, but some still claim to hear the ghostly wails of millions of spirits waiting to escape.
