Brigandine armor consists of a thin gambeson worn under a tunic-length vest made from heavy cloth or buff leather, often without sleeves. The long vest is lined with additional heavy cloth or leather, and riveted together with small metal rectangles on the innermost layer. Brigandine armor is widely used because it affords the most protection possible without requiring the services of an armorer.

A plain brigandine organizes the rivets to appear in rows, giving the outer layer a “studded” appearance; however, often the rivets are used in a decorative manner - arranged in triangular groups of three, gilded, or embossed with a design. In more expensive brigandines the outermost layer of cloth or leather is topped by richly-dyed velvet.

Ignore "studded leather" - studded leather is a fantasy misinterpretation of what jack armor and brigandine armor look like in historical documents and extant pieces. If your armor has spikes or metal bits added to it for "the look," feel free to add that in RP all you want (with DM permission, ofc).

Made from tough but flexible leather, studded leather is reinforced with close-set rivets or spikes.
