Lamellar armor is constructed with many small, rectangular plates laced together, typically in horizontal rows. Multiple attached rows are fashioned into a cuirass and spaulders, or a waist-length shirt with short, close sleeves. Lamellar armor purchased from an armorer always uses metal; however, it may be repaired using stone, bone, horn, boiled leather, or scraps of hide.
This armor consists of a thick, padded gambeson, a lamellar cuirass or shirt, and reinforced leather boots.
Made of interlocking metal rings, a chain shirt is worn between layers of clothing or leather. This armor offers modest protection to the wearer's upper body and allows the sound of the rings rubbing against one another to be muffled by outer layers.
