A hauberk is a tunic made from mail, a mesh of interlocking metal rings.

This armor includes a padded gambeson, a hauberk with attached mail coif, and a cotehardie or surcote on top. A thick leather belt assists in supporting the weight of the mail. This armor offers modest protection to the wearer's upper body and allows the sound of the moving metal to be muffled by the outer layer.
