A full suit of mail includes a gambeson, hauberk, chausses over the legs and tops of feet, a mail coif with padded skull cap, and a pair of mail-and-leather gauntlets. A thick leather belt and additional ties assist in supporting the weight of the armor at wrist, hip, and knee.
Made of interlocking metal rings, chain mail includes a layer of quilted fabric worn underneath the mail to prevent chafing and to cushion the impact of blows. The suit includes gauntlets.
