This armor is made of metal plates covering key areas of the body layered over individual sections of mail known as “gousset.” The underlying mail sections are attached to a gambeson, and reinforce the armor at the neck, armpits, elbows, and hip. The suit of armor includes a plate cuirass with fauld and culet, a mail coif with padded skull cap, spaulders, and plate coverings strapped to both upper and lower arms and legs.
Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
