Absentia is an expensive Sarlonan sleep medicine with some curious side effects.
After taking this drug, the user falls into a deep, magical slumber (if they are capable of sleeping). This slumber lasts for eight hours, and the user gains the full benefits of a long rest. The user can only be prematurely awoken by the Greater Restoration spell. During the long rest, the user is immune to the Dream spell and to “Nightmare” effects such as that of the Night Hag. Due to the nature of the drug, anyone with the Fey Ancestry trait (such as elves and half-elves) or any type of immunity to sleep effects (such as the Warforged) are immune to the effects of the drug.
Somnambulism is thought to be one effect of the drug. Having vivid or lucid dreams is thought to be another. Some artificers speculate that the drug allows contact between the user and Dal Quor, the plane of dreams, though there has been little research into this. Kalashtar can be put to sleep by the drug, but they are immune to the side effects.
If the user takes more than one dose within 12 hours, the duration of the drug doubles, cumulatively. Thus a user who takes two doses will be unconscious for 16 hours (2x8), a user who takes three doses will be unconscious for 32 hours (2x16) hours, etc.
Notes: Consumable
