Astral Shields are made of a scale of one kind of gem dragon. Sometimes dragons collect their cast-off scales and gift them to humanoids. Other times, hunters carefully skin and preserve the hide of a dead dragon. In either case, Astral Shields are highly valued.
The Astral Shield appears as a small gem that is determined by the kind of gem dragon that provided the scale. As an action on their turn, you can expand the gem into a full shield, automatically donning it. You gain the benefits of a normal shield, and you have resistance to one damage type that is determined by the kind of gem dragon that provided the scales (see the table).
In addition, when the shield is expanded, you can use a bonus action to focus your will on it, which causes the shield to become magically fixed in place. Until you use a bonus action to focus your will again, the shield doesn't move, even if it is defying gravity. The shield provides full cover for anything behind it as if it were a solid wall. The shield can hold up to 8,000 pounds of weight. More weight causes the shield to deactivate and fall. A creature can use an action to make a DC 30 Strength check, moving the fixed shield up to 10 feet on a success. You can activate the shield in this way a number of times equal to your Strength Modifier and regain all expended uses each dawn.
