Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement by a warforged)

In the early days of the War of the Gods, each side made attempts at creating immensely powerful objects to help gain the advantage. Powerful mages and cultists worked tirelessly to create legendary artifacts for their god's chosen champions. These objects became known as the Relics of Divinity. Scattered to time, they are all but legend now for those who study the war in detail. Few have ever resurfaced throughout time, and those that have were kept secret for fear of falling into the wrong hands.

Io's Wrath is a metallic circle with an image of a circling dragon chasing it's tail. It is a modification that only can be equipped to a warforged, specifically at the base of its head. Due to tampering of the artifact by both sides, Io's Wrath now has the ability to pull it's power from any one of the chromatic or metallic dragon types. Once attuned, the warforge's head takes on draconic elements based off of the chosen dragon type.

Dormant

When first attuned, the user must choose one type of dragon from the chromatic or metallic list. They are then granted the following benefits in it's dormant state:

  • You gain darkvision up to 60 ft., or an additional 60 ft. if you already have darkvision. You also can speak, read, and write Draconic.
  • You grow claws, granting you 1d4+STR to all unarmed attacks.
  • You can use your action to exhale the breath weapon of the chosen dragon type. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw is 13. A creature takes 3d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. You can do this twice per long rest.
Dragon Damage Type Breath Weapon
Black Acid 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Blue Lightning 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Brass Fire 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Bronze Lightning 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Copper Acid 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Gold Fire 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
Green Poison 15 ft. cone (Con. save)
Red Fire 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
Silver Cold 15 ft. cone (Con. save)
White Cold 15 ft. cone (Con. save)

Awakened

When Io's Wrath reaches an awakened state, it gains the following properties:

  • Your breath weapon increases in damage to 4d6, the save DC is increased to 15, and you gain another use of your breath weapon, to a total of 3.
  • As a bonus action, you gain a flying speed of 40 for 1 minute. You cannot use this ability again until after a long rest.
  • You gain Frightful Presence. You can use an action to make each creature of your choice that is within 60 feet of you and aware of you to succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of you for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to your Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours. You cannot use this ability again until after a long rest.

Exalted

When Io's Wrath reaches an exalted state, it gains the following properties:

  • Your breath weapon increases in damage to 5d6, the save DC is increased to 17, and you gain another use of your breath weapon, to a total of 4.
  • You can choose one additional dragon type and gain access to its breath weapon and damage resistance. In addition, you may use 2 uses of your breath weapon to combine the two breath weapons into one. The energy shoots out into a 60 foot cone. A creature takes 5d6 of each damage type on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. You can do this once per long rest
  • A pair of metallic wings emerges from your back. You gain a permanent flying speed of 40 ft.
  • You gain blindsight out to 30 ft.
