This bag has an interior space considerably larger than its outside dimensions, roughly 2 feet in diameter at the mouth and 4 feet deep. The bag can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents. Retrieving an item from the bag requires an action.
If the bag is overloaded, pierced, or torn, it ruptures and is destroyed, and its contents are scattered in the Astral Plane. If the bag is turned inside out, its contents spill forth, unharmed, but the bag must be put right before it can be used again. Breathing creatures inside the bag can survive up to a number of minutes equal to 10 divided by the number of creatures (minimum 1 minute), after which time they begin to suffocate.
Placing a bag of holding inside an extradimensional space created by a handy haversack, portable hole, or similar item instantly destroys both items and opens a gate to the Astral Plane. The gate originates where the one item was placed inside the other. Any creature within 10 feet of the gate is sucked through it to a random location on the Astral Plane. The gate then closes. The gate is one-way only and can’t be reopened.
Notes: Utility, Container
Could you use this to banish creatures? Like Could you place one inside another standing next to a tarrasque and trap it that way? You could use different spells to make sure your out of range
I am aswell...
When opening a portal to the Astral Plane by putting a Bag of Holding in a Portable Hole, are the contents of each destroyed, like the bag and the hole, or sucked through the gate like any creature within 10 feet?
If I place an item in a bag of holding can someone cast locate object on it and actually find the item?
is there a way to use this on the character sheets on here and by that I mean put stuff inside it
I personally remove the stored items from my inventory and place them on the other possessions list. That seems to work as far as weight calculations go, but it's up to the player to remember the bag's limits and to not overload it.
please don't insult the artists.
I bet they tried very hard to draw these pictures, and I am personally grateful that the drawings are here, they allow much better description.
So please don't insult the drawings
thanks,
Ok, I haven't seen anybody else reply to this, so I'll go ahead and do it:
None of that is correct, like... at all.
Most spells either require you target a creature you can see, an area, or an area you can see.
Anything in the bag can not bee seen because beyond the entrance to the bag is another realm of reality.
The interior of the bag is similarly off limits as an "area you can see" so that only leaves things that target general area like "60ft cone" or whatever, which leaves you casting things like cone of cold or burning hands. At absolute best, that will do nothing, and at worst you just destroyed the bag. The bag won't hold the spells, or extend them past their initial duration or... anything silly like that.
Can a Bag of Holding hold a PC or NPC?
Have a water skin as a bag of holding for liquids
Hypothetically, if you filled the bag with water and put a water-breathing creature inside it, could it survive longer than the 10 minutes?
What if you have a bag of holding go into a bag of holding? It isnt listed in the items that would create the portal to the astral plane.is this like finnally shulker boxes can be put in shulker boxes?
For those interested in when the Bag of Holding will function on your character sheet, DDB has listed "Inventory Container Management" on their Upcoming Features Roadmap. It looks like it will possibly be available next quarter (early 2021).

I'd have to agree with Conjuration. Demiplane (a spell that creates a pocket dimension you can walk into) is Conjuration.
Trick a villain into putting one inside the other and banish them to the astral plane EZ win
Scenario - My PC was faced with an unwinnable battle and decided to cast invisibility, sneak up the lead bad guy, toss a bag of holding into another bag of holding, essentially clearing out a 10x10 space of bad guys, including the leader.
Now here is the contestable part - The PC that essentially executed the ‘bag bomb’ placed two immovable rods tied to a rope of climbing to keep in the current plane and not be sucked into the Astral plane.
As the DM, I am struggling with - Does the Bag of Holding inside a bag of holding cause a force blast into the Astral plane or is it a teleportation - ‘blink and you are gone’ kinda of experience? Depending on the answer, then did he and the rods all get sucked or teleported through? Do I require a strength check to see if he held on and if so, vs what DC? Would the force of the ‘sucking’ be so great that he suffers damage? What would be the damage? Would he lose all of his belongings on person?
Help please!
If a bag of holding is on my head while I try to cast a spell that has vsm components will it work at all since my voice is technically in a different dimension?
Similar issue to using a BoH as a feed bag in avernus so that your food still tastes good....?
...and water would continue pouring in, overloading it's weight limit causing the bag to burst at the seams and expel 60 gallons of water.
