Created from the remains of a great Barbarian warlords shattered greataxe that was once said to to be able to cleave through plate armor and bone like mere parchment. Upon the death of the warlord the shattered greataxe was was gather by the victor at the end of the battle and melted down to create a grand shield capable of both offense and defense, little did the victor know that the fury and rage of the perished warlord lives on in the fragmented remains of his former weapon.
Setting both top and bottom of the shield lay the razor sharp edge of the former great axe even after being melted down nearly sharp as when first forged and wielded in its original formed. The fury and rage of the warlord works through the greataxe at a cost to the wielder. To use this shield to full effect the wielder must sacrifice part of their life to the shield.
This shield is able to do 1 d6 slashing damage
Adamantine Damage Reduction - critical hit becomes normal hit (Shield cannot be broken)
Adamantine Attack - Critical hit range 19-20
Further the wielder can use their life to cast Dread as a bonus action without components.
Cost 3 life to have the shield inspire Dread in all within 30ft of the shield. (Multiple uses a day increase cost by 3 each beyond 2 uses, Death of wielder consumes the wielders soul preventing them from being resurected by both the living and other worldly)
Will save DC 11
Additional cost of 10 life to increase will dc Save by 2 (can be done in same bonus action or in another bonus action)
Upon failed save DM rolls D6 to determine level of Dread effect.
1 Disturbed. Must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against the dread’s save DC to move closer to the dread’s source
2 Spooked. Cannot approach the source of the dread (automatically fails the saving throw listed at level 1); disadvantage on ability checks while the dread’s source is within line of sight
3 Afraid. Disadvantage on attack rolls while the dread’s source is within line of sight
4 Staggered. Insanity risk (see below); drop all held items upon reaching this and any higher level of dread; can’t take bonus actions or reactions; at the start of own turn, must make a Wisdom saving throw against the dread’s save DC; success reduces dread level by one
5 Panicked. Must take the Dash action and move away from the dread’s source by the safest available route on each turn unless there is nowhere to move
6 Paralyzed. Paralyzed (see the condition) with fear, either in immediate prior position or cowering
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
