This 20-inch simple steel-capped wooden rod belies powerful magic that can be used by its wielder. Whilst holding the rod any creature can use a bonus action to command the rod to change its form to that of a simple or martial weapon. If commanded to change into a weapon that requires ammunition it creates ammunition as it is fired that disappears once used. It holds three charges and uses 1 charge whenever the rod is commanded to change, regaining all spent charges after a long rest. Once transformed the rod remains as the chosen weapon until it is commanded to change again. At any time the rod can also be commanded to change back into its simple-looking rod form without consuming a charge.
Upon commanding the rod to change, it transforms into a +1 magic weapon, giving a +1 bonus to attack and damage, and also gains a random property from the table below. Roll 1d8 to determine which property. This special property remains in effect for 1 minute after the transformation, but after that time it fades. The transformed rod keeps the +1 weapon bonus as long as it remains a weapon, even after the random property fades.
