This smooth, hexagonal black stone is an inch or two wide, and about eight inches long. Its faces are inscribed with strings of runes, which pulse with a soft purple glow, and its ends taper to blunt points. These rare and valuable items allow mages to store their magic inside for later use.
This item has a number of spaces equal to your proficiency bonus. During a long rest, you can charge the battery with spells (but not cantrips) of up to 5th level. You must know these spells, but you don't need to have them prepared. When you load a spell, it fills a number of spaces equal to the spell's level. You can load a spell at a higher level by consuming additional spaces. A spell can be loaded multiple times, but it fills new spaces each time.
As an action, you can discharge a spell that is loaded in the battery. When you do this, you immediately cast the spell at the level it was loaded into the battery at, without expending a spell slot, and the spell is removed from the battery, freeing the spaces it consumed. The spell is cast using your normal spellcasting stats, and can't be modified by features that weren't present when the spell was loaded (i.e. a ring providing a passive modifier could affect the spell, but something like metamagic couldn't).
You can also give the spell to another creature, and allow it to discharge the spells inside as an action. These spells are cast using your spellcasting stats (not the creatures), but the creature controls the spell, and provides concentration if necessary.
Whenever you charge the battery, you can set a command to discharge it, which can be verbal or somatic. You can spend one minute teaching a creature the command, which allows the creature to easily discharge the battery. A creature who doesn't know the command must succeed on a DC 18 Intelligence (Investigation) check to determine the command before it can discharge the battery. A creature that has seen you use the current command has advantage on this check.
