Armor (plate), rare (requires attunement)

This finely crafted suit of heavy steel plate is engraved with a single stylized eye in the center of the breastplate. When activated, the eye seems to scan its surroundings with swift, alert movements.

While wearing this armor and attuned to it, if you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, the armor activates a magical protocol to help you escape danger.

  • At the start of your next turn, the armor casts the Misty Step spell on you (no action required). You teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see, moving away from the nearest hostile creature.

  • After teleporting, the armor then moves your body up to 15 feet in a straight line away from that creature, ignoring difficult terrain. You provoke opportunity attacks as normal.

  • This feature can be used once, and it recharges after a long rest.

If Misty Step cannot be cast (for example, due to magical interference or lack of line of sight), the armor instead animates your body and moves you up to 15 feet away from the nearest hostile creature at the end of each of your turns while you are unconscious. You continue moving this way until you are at least 60 feet away from all hostile creatures or until you regain consciousness. This movement ignores difficult terrain but provokes opportunity attacks as normal.

Lore:
This armor was originally crafted for a prince who was sent to the front lines by his worried mother, a queen of a long-forgotten kingdom. Though the prince disliked its bulky form, it saved his life when a javelin struck him down in battle. His unconscious body was seen sprinting back into the city gates, guided by the armor’s enchantment — a moment now immortalized in song.

Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
