Weapon (trident), legendary (requires attunement)

A legendary trident imbued with the sacred power of its namesake, the Sovereign of Life and Love. To attune to the trident, you must willingly place a drop of your blood anywhere on the weapon, provided you have the intention to attune to it. Upon doing this, the person trying to attune will be transported to the Astral Plane, where they must earn the right to wield the artifact in a trial. Little is known of what this trial entails, as almost none have succeeded. After the trial has concluded, the attuning person will be transported back to the same place in the Material Plane, exactly 10 seconds after they left. If the individual failed the trial, they will return at one hit point. If they succeeded, they will return in the same physical state as when they left, having successfully completed the attunement.

While not attuned, this weapon operates as a normal Trident.

While attuned, this weapon gains the following benefits:

  • The weapon contains 20 charges, which can be used to attack and perform magical abilities.
  • The weapon's damage increases from 1d6 piercing damage to 2d6 piercing damage. If being wielded two-handed, the damage increases from 1d8 to 2d8. All damage dealt by the weapon is magical damage. Each hit that connects with an enemy consumes one charge.
  • The weapon acquires the Finesse property.
  • If the attuned wills it, the weapon will always return to its wielder after being thrown, provided it is possible.
  • Sovereign's Love: The attuned can use their action to throw the trident at an ally. If the ally is willing, make the attack roll with advantage. On a hit, rather than receiving damage, the ally will be affected with the Heroism spell. This does not require concentration, and will always last for the full duration, unless it is dispelled by magic or the target is incapacitated. This ability consumes three charges.
  • Gift of Life: The attuned calls upon the wisdom of Arawai, allowing them to add their proficiency bonus to one Wisdom (Nature) check, even if the attuned is already proficient in that skill. This ability consumes one charge.

Proficiency with a Trident allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.

Notes: Damage: Piercing, Weapon Property: Finesse, Damage, Combat, Thrown, Versatile, Topple
