Weapon (longsword), artifact (requires attunement)

Adjatha also known as "Adjatha the Drinker" is a +2 long sword of fine blue steel, hilted with steel in a single cross-quillon and a plain, spherical, polished knob pommel. Set in the heart of the tang, where the quillons meet just above the fine chain wrapping of the hilt, is a large (one-inch diameter) cabochon-cut black sapphire (worth 6,000 gp). There are no known markings or runes on the blade, and it does not shed any radiance. The legends of this blade can be traced back hundreds of years yet many remember this blade as belonging to Dabbar, a long-dead servant of Bhaal that exercised control over his minions in the most brutal of ways.

When this sword hits a living creature who is not immune to necrotic damage, the sword does 10 hit points of necrotic damage and adds 10 points of healing or temporary hit points to the one holding the blade. The other property of Adjatha is its ability to "drink" the magic from enchanted items. Potions poured over the blade will cause the sword to faintly glow blue and will instantly identify their magical effects to the one holding the sword. Also, any item (except scrolls and artifacts) that the sword touches lose their enchantment momentarily or until the start of the next turn. However if the user of this sword reduces an opponent to 0 hit points one enchanted item that is being worn (i.e. armor, shield, helm, robes, cloak, boots or amulet) will be permanently destroyed; likewise, this will cause Adjatha to glow a faint blue light.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
