Unintentionally created through two chance encounters: a young, solitary Infovore and a trio of Gnomes - this sentient magic weapon is unique and unpredictable.
This weapon counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances.
Whilst travelling towards the Storm Front from the Temple of the Windy Wastes in the Otherlands, Howlin' Fury and his companions, Weebles and Vampcrule, encountered a solitary creature in a perfectly shaped woodland glade. Attempting to sneak around it garnered its attention when it ate Howlin's name. Understanding that he'd lost something immeasurably valuable but not what, he mindlessly charged across the open space and slew the creature with a single swipe of his Greataxe.
Doing so restored his name and dipping his weapon in the creature's viscera caused it to shimmer iridescently as it absorbed the magical essence of the last victim, a Wizard by the name of Ashborne, becoming a named weapon.
Further down the winding path, the trio of adventurers ran across three Gnomes, all followers of the God of Madness and Entropy, Yvzothzef. Unable to stop or escape their barbarous practices, the party was attacked and swiftly put down the remaining two Gnomes but as Ashborne passed through the body of the tentacled Gnome, it magically absorbed some of the chaotic nature of Yvzothzef. It morphed again, taking on the visage of a screaming face as the madness swirled around it. Burying it in the body of the final Gnome, Ashborne revealed its newly acquired magical chaos in the form of a Maddening Swing as it transported the victim into the Plane of Fire.
Sentience. The Ashborne Greataxe is a sentient chaotic neutral weapon with an Intelligence of 15, a Wisdom of 14, and a Charisma of 11. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet.
The weapon communicates by transmitting emotions, sending a tingling sensation through the wielder’s hand when it wants to communicate something it has sensed. It can communicate more explicitly, through visions or dreams, when the wielder is either in a trance or asleep.
Maddening Swing. Ashborne constantly whispers to its wielder until this ability has been unleashed. Once per day when this weapon strikes a creature, you can use its Maddening Swing ability as it unleashes a burst of chaotic energy. A random effect occurs, roll on the table below to determine the effect.
Proficiency with a Greataxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Cleave. If you hit a creature with a melee attack roll using this weapon, you can make a melee attack roll with the weapon against a second creature within 5 feet of the first that is also within your reach. On a hit, the second creature takes the weapon’s damage, but don’t add your ability modifier to that damage unless that modifier is negative. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
