Etched with eldritch music notes, this instrument stand allows the attuned bard to magically levitate their instrument, freeing up their hands for shields, weapons, and other activities. For this property to work, you must keep the instrument on the stand and play it for at least 10 minutes. Thereafter, the instrument can’t be removed from the stand unless you detach it as an action or the instrument is destroyed. The instrument does fall off the stand if your attunement to the stand ends or if the instrument is destroyed. While attuned, the instrument floats 3 feet above the ground in an unoccupied space of your choice that you can see within 30 feet. If 200 pounds of force are stacked atop the instrument and stand somehow, the whole stack falls to the ground.
The instrument is immobile while you are within 20 feet of it. If you move more than 20 feet away from it, the instrument follows you so that it remains within 20 feet of you. It can move across uneven terrain, up or down stairs, slopes and the like, but it can't cross an elevation change of 10 feet or more. For example, the instrument can't move across a 10-foot-deep pit, nor could it leave such a pit if it was created at the bottom.
If you move more than 100 feet from the instrument (typically because it can't move around an obstacle to follow you), the instrument stays at the place where it's obstructed.
The instrument can be targeted by enemies as an unattended object unless you are holding or playing it. You still need to have two free hands to play the instrument, but grasping it is a free action that does not count against your free "interact with object" action.
