Mechanics:
The staff can be summoned or dismissed as a bonus action. The light from the crystal can be diminished to a faint ember or brightened to effect of the Light spell with a chosen command word.
While wielding this weapon, the following reactions can be taken:
1. When a being fails a saving throw against one of your spells, you may store a Shard of Will in the staff’s crystal. While a Shard of will is stored, you have advantage on saving throws of the same type you caused the creature to fail when you stored the Shard.
2. When you hit a being with a ranged spell attack, you may store a Shard of Blasting in the staff’s crystal. While a Shard of Blasting is stored, ranged spell attacks against you are made with disadvantage, and cannot be affected by Magic Missile.
3. When you hit a being with a melee spell attack, you may store a Shard of Souls in the staff’s crystal. While a Shard of Souls is stored, melee spell attacks against you are made with disadvantage.
4. When one of your spells deals damage to a being, you may gain a Shard of Resistance in the staff’s crystal. While a Shard of Resistance is stored, you gain resistance to the same type of damage you caused when you stored the Shard.
The crystal can only hold up to one shard of each type.
At will you can consume one or more Shards to empower your next spell cast of 1st level or higher. For each Shard spent, you can increase the range of the spell by an amount equal to its initial maximum range, increase the level of the spell by one, increase the saving throw DC of the spell by one, or add two to an attack roll made for the spell. Any spell empowered by this ability cannot be used to gain a shard and any shards consumed will fade if not used within one minute.
Description:
At just over five feet long, this glittering white staff is made of metal weighs much less than it would appear. While the shaft is plain, the staff splits into two spiraling strands at its head, suspending a gently glowing, rough, white crystal that naturally sheds dim light in a 10 foot radius. The color of the light changes based on what types of Shards are stored in the crystal. A Shard of Will adds yellow. A Shard of Blasting adds red. A Shard of Souls adds violet. A Shard of Resistance adds green.
Proficiency with a Quarterstaff allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.
