This small, short needle is a conduit for arcane power. Pressing it into your skin over your heart while attuning to it causes the needle to drive itself into your heart - this process is painless and has no negative effects for you.
While you are attuned to this needle, you can expend a hit die to cast a spell with a level lower than or equal to 1 less than your proficiency bonus without expending a spell slot.
Curse. This needle is cursed - attuning to it extends its curse to you. When you cast a spell by expending a hit die while cursed in this way, you must expend one extra hit die for the spell to be cast in this way. When you expend the last hit die you have available to you, you instantly die. A Remove Curse spell cast using a 5th level spell slot or similar powerful magic can break this curse, ending this item's attunement.
