Armor (plate), legendary (requires attunement)

This legendary armor was once worn by the noble paladin Sir William Grantham, Holy Blade of Lathander. Sir William's deeds in the name of Lathander were so great that the Morninglord himself chose to honor the paladin at the moment of his death by placing a portion of his indomitable will into his golden armor.  The Armor of Sheer Will accepts no wearer except those with unyielding bravery and iron will. This sentient armor calls itself Will and speaks to you telepathically while you wear it encouraging you to perform brave deeds. Should the wearer ever do something as cowardly as run away from a fight, the Armor of Sheer Will will no longer see you as its master and will fight against you at every opportunity.

While wearing this armor, when you enter combat make a Constitution Saving Throw. If you roll a 2-9 you gain no bonus armor. 10-14 you gain +1 AC. 15-19 you gain +2 AC. On a natural 20, you gain +5 AC until combat ends. If the roll is a 1 Will finds your resolve insultingly weak and you become controlled by the armor until you make a DC 12 con save at the end of a turn or you take a single hit larger than half of your maximum hit points. While being controlled the armor will aggressively attack the closest enemy.

In addition, when entering combat as long as the wearer is not controlled by the armor they gain Aura of Will. The Aura of Will grants the wearer and friendly creatures within 30ft immunity to charm and frightening effects.

Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
