Life siphons are small, short, needle-like, hollow dagger is a conduit for an arcane siphon. Pressing it into your skin over your heart for an hour will drive an arcane spike into your heart. The presence of this spike is painless and has no negative effects on you. The spike is a conduit that allows you to siphon your life force into your arcane abilities. To unattune to this item, the dagger must be pressed into the heart of another or destroyed.
Some life siphons grant the individual attuned to them an additional hit dice. These hit die do not increase an individual's hit point maximum, but otherwise function as normal hit die. Such life siphons are very rare
When attuned to this arcane life siphon, you can use a hit die to cast a spell of a level lower than or equal to 1 less than your proficiency bonus without using a spell slot. For example, a character with a proficiency bonus of +3 can use a hit die to cast a level 1 or a level 2 spell without using a spell slot.
