Weapon (crossbow, hand), very rare (requires attunement by a Arcane Archer)

An unusual hand crossbow with a magic capacitor built within. The device reacts to the presence of magic nearby, consuming the energy before turning it back to where it came.

When you or an ally cast a spell of 5th level or lower within 30 feet of this weapon while you are attuned to it, the caster can choose to store the spell within the weapon. This weapon cannot store the effects of concentration spells or spells cast as a ritual. You can only store one spell at a time with this weapon. Attempting to store more than one spell at a time will cause the previous spell to be overwritten. If you do not use the stored spell within 4 hours, the spell dissipates from the weapon.

When you hit with this weapon you can use your bonus action to trigger the effect of the spell stored within, causing the effect to activate and target the creature struck by the bolt as if it was cast by you. Touch spells and spells that make ranged attacks will use the hand crossbow's range and to hit bonus instead. Spells that have saves use your spell save DC, not the original casters. Area of effect spells will be centered on the area struck by the bolt. The spell effect triggers after the bolt deals damage to the creature, and the spell can only target the creature that was hit.

You can also use this ability to turn the effects of an enemy's spell against them. When a spell caster within 30 feet of you casts a spell of 5th level or lower and you do not already have a spell stored, you can use your reaction to try to interrupt them and absorb the spell into the weapon. Make a DC check of 15+ the spell's level using your spell casting modifier. On a fail, nothing happens and the spell goes off as normal. On a success, the spell is halted and forcefully absorbed into the weapon, allowing it to be used with the same options as above. Whether you fail or succeed on the check, using this feature puts great strain on the weapon and it will not be able to store a spell again for the next 8 hours.

Proficiency with a Hand Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
