Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement)

This faintly glowing green gemstone, changes in size to fit it's owners palm.

It has the ability to transmute any solid parts of an inanimate or living object into solid gold (Creatures larger than medium are unaffected). You may transmute any solid material in a 5ft by 5ft cube into gold. The material's weight is now as heavy as gold, material transmuted from a larger surface (such as a part of a rock face) does not fall off but must be extracted accordingly. This material has the same weight of gold, and is worth it's new weight in gold.

As an action you may attempt to transmute a visible living creature within 30ft. That creature must succeed on a constitution saving throw, or part of it's body is transmuted into solid gold. On a failure the creature's speed is halved and it takes 4d6 necrotic damage (halved on a successful save), if the rolled damage exceeds the creatures current health, the entire creature is transmuted to gold and the creature becomes petrified.  Either effect can be ended with a remove curse spell.

The DM decides if the part of the body transmuted is anywhere in particular (such as an arm or a leg). That might inhibit somatic components of spells. If the area of the body that is transmuted is cut off, the speed reduction affecting the creature is no longer present.

You must take a long rest before using the gem in any way again. When a creature uses this ability they must succeed on a DC 10 Wisdom saving throw or become influenced by Abbathor's greed. Each use of this item increases the DC of the Wisdom saving throw by 1. When influenced by Abbathor's greed you gain the following effects:

- When influenced, you may not give up the gem willingly unless you succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw. The same check is required if you wish to keep the gem somewhere not on your person.

- When influenced, you regain the gem's feature after a short or long rest.

- When influenced, whenever you exchange anything of value from your person worth 50GP or more you must make a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw, on a failure you cannot give away such item or coin. You may attempt to do so again with the same person after 1 hour.

Notes: Damage: Necrotic, Petrified
