Weapon (longsword), rare (requires attunement by a character with proficiency in a martial weapon.)

A boxy sword hilt made of gray metal, its grip wrapped with an intricate leather weave. The only clue to its purpose lies in the word "Anyblade (tm)" stamped into the pommel. Where a blade would be, there is only a slot capped with concave black glass.

When swung, the hilt emits a colored energy which changes to suit the wielder after attunement. The energy takes the form of whatever blade the wielder is thinking of and becomes solid. Possibilities include a longsword, dagger, scimitar, rapier, axe, or even a greatsword.

Wielding the anyblade with two hands grants an additional +5ft. attack range as the blade becomes longer to match the grip. To change the grip, you must twist the hilt with both hands and pull the telescoping mechanism apart. The emitter can swivel 90 degrees to allow the blade to form an axe head.

The hilt will only unlock for a wielder who is attuned with it. When attuned, the user may concentrate to keep the blade emitted as long as they like. The blade is solid when fully emitted and intangible when not.

You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon, or a +1 bonus when not attuned.

When attuned, the first time you attack with the anyblade on each of your turns, you can transfer some or all of the anyblade’s bonus to your Armor Class, instead of using the bonus on any attacks that turn. For example, you could reduce the bonus to your attack and damage rolls to +1 and gain a +1 bonus to AC. The adjusted bonuses remain in effect until the start of your next turn, although you must hold the anyblade to gain a bonus to AC from it.

The final function of the anyblade is to protect its wielder's soul. If the wielder dies, they may choose to store their soul in the hilt's internal phylactery to help defend the next wielder. A soul contained within the phylactery is not trapped and may choose to return to the mortal cycle of reincarnation. An anyblade containing no soul and not attuned is just a hilt, but attuning with the anyblade is sufficient to fuel it.

The DM may change the magic modifier at their discretion if the soul within the anyblade is particularly powerful.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
