Weapon (shortbow), very rare (requires attunement)

Imbued with the elemental magic from an ancient volcano, Ashfall appears to be carved from pure obsidian. When an arrow is knocked on the string of this magic bow, smoke begins to slowly spill from it accompanied with a slight sulphuric smell.

This bow magically imbues arrows fired from it with volcanic magic, dealing an additional 1d6 fire damage on a hit. Further, as an action, you can fire an arrow at an unoccupied space on the ground that you can see within 320 feet of you, no attack roll required, and cast one of the following spells at that point by expending the appropriate amount of charges. The spells all have a save DC of 16 where appropriate.

  • Fog Cloud (2 charges)
  • Erupting Earth (3 charges)
  • Stinking Cloud (3 charges)
  • Cloudkill (5 charges)

In addition, once per turn when you hit a creature with an attack, you can expend 3 charges to deal an additional 1d6 poison damage and force the creature to make a DC 16 constitution saving throw or gain 1 level of exhaustion.

The bow has 9 charges and regains all charges on a long rest.

Proficiency with a Shortbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
