Weapon (longsword), varies (requires attunement by a creature with a non-lawful alignment)

This is the last remaining sliver of a once mighty dragon who sought to become a god. Now banished to an extra-planar prison as a mere vestige, this sliver is its only hope of being freed to renew its quest for ultimate power.

The Sliver of the Dragon's Soul has the unique power to absorb the magic of other weapons through transmosis. As long as the power of the weapon being absorbed does not conflict in some way with it being a longsword (it could not absorb a power that relies on the weapon being a warhammer, for instance), and does not include sentience, then a person attuned to the Sliver of the Dragon's Soul can spend 1 hour transferring the magic from one weapon to this weapon. The weapon having its magic drained then becomes permanently nonmagical and any previous power, other than that of transmosis, in the Sliver of the Dragon's Soul is replaced by the absorbed power of the drained weapon. This new power determines the rarity of the current form of this weapon.

Attuning to the Sliver of the Dragon's Soul takes only 1 minute.

Sentience

The Sliver of the Dragon's Soul is a sentient chaotic evil weapon with an Intelligence of 15, a Wisdom of 12, and a Charisma of 17. It has hearing, darkvision, and blindsight out to a range of 120 feet. Whether it uses these abilities to benefit its wielder, however, is another matter entirely.

The Sliver of the Dragon's Soul can speak, read, and understand Abyssal, Common and Draconic, and can communicate with its wielder telepathically. It's voice is imperious and demanding and seems to echo from across an unimaginably vast distance. While you are attuned to it, the Sliver of the Dragon's Soul also understands every language you know.

Personality

The Sliver of the Dragon's Soul is quick to offend and will either cease functioning or initiate conflict with anyone who disobeys it. Despite this, it rarely demands anything as it seeks to empower its wielder as best it can through selectively gifting them arcane knowledge as a carrot to entice its wielder towards its own ends. At first, it will tempt someone into attuning to it by telling them minor secrets of ancient lore and magic. It then begins to make itself indispensable by whispering ever more powerful secrets to the wielder.

The sword’s ultimate purpose is to free the Vestige of the Dragon from its extra-planar prison. It does not, however, know how to do this and so requires someone of great power to find out, and then do it. Uniting the sword with the vestige, however, is probably neither good for the world, nor the wielder.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
