This slip of translucent chitin must be affixed to the head or neck. shimmering living projections trail from that spot, reacting to your emotions and thoughts. These may take the form of anything from curling tendrils, to hovering geometric expressions. Whatever form they take, they should reflect a glimpse into your mindscape.
As an action, you can pluck a projection and speak a command word. When you do so, choose one of the following effects:
Sheltering Bough. For 1 hour or until you dismiss it (no action required) the projection circles in the air around you or a creature of your choice. That creature can use its reaction when it takes damage to reduce the amount taken by up to 10d4.
Indigo Shield. For 1 hour or until you dismiss it (no action required), the projection either becomes a +1 shield, or bolsters an existing shield which you or another creature can then use. A creature wielding the shield has immunity to psychic damage.
Blazing Strand. For 1 hour or until you dismiss it (no action required), the scale becomes a fiery Rope of Entanglement. You can activate the rope with the same action used to create it.
Additionally, the rope has +5 to its DC, and 30 more hit points.
Once three projections have been plucked, no more can be removed until the next dawn, when all the missing projections return. If you pluck off a projection but don’t speak a command word, it disappears after 1 minute.
