This bag superficially resembles a bag of holding but has been possessed by an ancient fossilized sentient mind flayer skull who's name was Qharodok before he died. The bag is a rubbery grey color and it's clasp resembles Illithid face tentacles.
Bag of Holding: This bag has an interior space considerably larger than its outside dimensions, roughly 2 feet in diameter at the mouth but internally it is 10' by 10' that can be filled with any weight of inanimate objects. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents. Retrieving an item from the bag requires an action.
Theft resistance: If anyone tries to open the bag without the owners permission they will find the leathery tentacle ties are working against them. They must spend an action and succeed in a DC 15 Sleight of Hands check to be able to open the bag. During this time Qharodok will use it's psychic link to alert the owner if it's hunger is sated or may decide to not alert it's owner if it hungers.
Devouring: Any living creature put into the bag is wholly devoured and lost forever. When part of a living creature is placed in the bag without the owners permission, as happens when someone reaches inside it, that the creature is pulled inside the bag if it fails a DC 15 strength check. A creature inside the bag can use its action to try to escape with a successful DC 15 Strength check. Another creature can use its action to pull a creature out, doing so with a successful DC 20 Strength check. Any creature that starts its turn inside the bag is devoured, its body destroyed. The tentacles and odd shape of the bag make forcing an attack in this way impossible unless the creature is incapacitated.
Hunger: It requires regular feeding to keep satiated. If Qharodok does not have it's hunger satiated the owner suffers increasingly negative effects for each day that passes without feeding.
- 1 Day - The Owner gains a level of exhaustion from the ceaseless psionic overpowering feeling of hunger transmitted to it. Exhaustion level's gained in this way cannot be removed through rest or magic short of wish or divine intervention until Qharodok's hunger is satiated.
- 2 Days - Additional level of exhaustion. If any items are stored within the bag that will satiate this hunger Qharodok will consume them without the owners permission.
- 3 Days - Additional level of exhaustion. Qharodok will consume any items contained within the bag.
- 4 Days - Additional level of exhaustion
- 5 days - Additional level of exhaustion
- 6 days - Additional level of exhaustion. Qharodok will consume the owner, or it's corpse, at any potential opportunity and then start searching for a new owner.
Feeding: Qharodok can be fed with sentient beings, magical objects, or magical metals such as chardalyn. Qharodok's ability to devour knows no bounds but it can only be satiated for up to 15 days at any time before being full. Higher quality foods provide more days where Qharodok is sated. Without being fed higher quality foods, especially sapient brains or sentient magical items, over time Qhardok will become upset and increasingly pressure the owner for better sustenance.
Qharodok provides a portion of his energy when being fed back to his owner. For every day of it's hunger sated up to full, the owner gains 2 temporary HP. If the owner is at 0 HP but not dead the owner heals this amount of HP instead of gaining temporary HP and will always gain 1 hp, even if Qharodok is full.
- Living Creatures: A living creature with an intelligence greater than 5 or a size of small or larger devoured by Qharodok. An incapacitated or willing creature can also have the tentacles of the bag pressed against the back of their head and the bag will slurp out the brain directly, leaving the rest of the body unaffected similar to an Intellect Devourer.
- 1 day per intelligence point of the devoured creature over 5, minimum of 1.
- Sapient Deceased Creatures: Corpses deceased for less than 24 hours that contain at least an intact brain with an intelligence over 5. The gentle repose or similar magics can be used to keep the brain fresh.
- 1 day per intelligence point / 2 (round down).
- Magical Items: Qhardok can devour non-artifact magical items placed in the bag. Legendary and Artifact level magical items cause indigestion and will be spat out of the bag whenever placed in.
- Sentient magical items - 20 days
- Common - 1 Day, Uncommon - 2 days, Rare - 5 Days, Very Rare - 10 Days
- Chardalyn or Other Magical Metals - Metals that are particularly attuned to magical forces like Chardalyn, Mithril, or Adamantium sate Qhardok's hunger for 2 days per pound
Cursed: If Qharodok does not currently have an owner it will bite the first sentient humanoid to put an item in or take an item out of the bag, drawing a single drop of blood. From that point Qharodok and the "owner" are linked. The bag is cursed and will not release it's hold over it's new thrall willingly. The owner will not willingly part with the bag for any reason. If the bag and the owner are separated it will appear in it's owner's possession again within 1d10x5 minutes. If the bag is destroyed, it will reform on the owner's person in 1d10 hours, hungry, even if recently fed.
Sentience: Qharodok is a sentient item with the following stats: INT 20 - WIS 14 - CHA 16
Qharodok is an ancient mindflayer who's skull was fossilized over thousands of years. His only motivation is to feed in an attempt to gain back his life. Qharodok communicates to it's owner through emotions, mostly anger and hunger. It's mind has been made fully chaotic over the centuries so coherent speech is not possible. Communication with it is difficult at best due to it's raging bottomless hunger.
