Armor (medium or heavy, but not hide), uncommon
This suit of armor is reinforced with adamantine, one of the hardest substances in existence. While you're wearing it, any critical hit against you becomes a normal hit.
Applicable Armor:
Name | Type | AC | Strength | Stealth |
---|---|---|---|---|
Chain Shirt | Medium | 13 + Dex modifier (max 2) | -- | -- |
Scale Mail | Medium | 14 + Dex modifier (max 2) | -- | Disadvantage |
Breastplate | Medium | 14+ Dex modifier (max 2) | -- | -- |
Half Plate | Medium | 15+ Dex modifier (max 2) | -- | Disadvantage |
Ring Mail | Heavy | 14 | -- | Disadvantage |
Chain Mail | Heavy | 16 | Strength 13 | Disadvantage |
Splint | Heavy | 17 | Strength 15 | Disadvantage |
Plate | Heavy | 18 | Strength 15 | Disadvantage |
Notes: Immunity: Critical Hits, Combat, Warding
While you're wearing it, any critical hit against you becomes a normal hit.
so it still hits
but if your AC is above 20 + the to hit modifier you would be untouched? (shield, spell or item, haste, that kind of stuff)
I don't think that changes the automatic hit of the crit still applying as it says if you would be crit you are instead just hit
If you have for say 24 AC and are crit with a +3 to hit you are still hit even in normal play
Basically the hit crits connects but the damage gets reduced to a normal hit as far as I can tell
In Waterdeep :dragon heist there is a note that a 10 pound adamantide bar cost 1000g so a suit of plate would cost 6500g mats +750gp labour = 7250gp minimum
The armor is not completely made of adamantine, it is reinforced with it.
the armour is not plated with adamantine but reinforced with it. i simplified the costing as a guide line as there are 2 procedures in making adamantine
1. composed of five parts adamant, two parts silver, and one part electrum.
2. possible to produce adamantine as an alloy of mithral and steel through the application of several magical procedures
taking this as part of calculation the labour cost would be a great deal more
I know that it cancels crits but does adamantine armor cancel Half-orcs savage attacks?
Since the Savage attack feature only procs on a critical hit and enhances the bonuses critical hits give you, I would say that adamantine would cancel it
All of this crap sucks so bad!
Does a Shield made of Adamantine still offer the same benefit as armor made of Adamantine?
how much would a solid adamantine armer cost and what is its weight
Some sights (like dungeon master assistance) says it costs 5000 gp per pound
Does anyone think it’s weird that it costs 0.2 gold pieces per pound of iron and plate armer weighs 65 pounds meaning plate armer actually costs 13 gold pieces not 1500??? can someone help me on this one.
Plate armour is made from steel which is iron and carbon based, now this procedure would need a skilled individual to make said steel and would take some time to do so
I would say that since savage attack bonus is added after crit damage is calculated that it would proc
no
Sure, I'll give a basic explanation. It's because not only is plate armor made of steel, which is an alloy made from iron to strengthen it while reducing weight (so your character would be able to move while wearing it, as just iron would make it entirely too heavy and not durable enough to function as a protective item), which takes time, skill, and knowledge, but you're also paying for the time and effort that the smith put into shaping it so that you can actually wear it and move properly in it. So factoring all of that in, especially considering the time frame expected if you were skilled with the smith's tools and had access to a forge, it makes perfect sense for it to cost 1500gp.
Also, steel and iron both come in very different forms, grades and qualities. A pound of common iron might cost 2 sp, but plate mail might require higher-quality base materials.
Would this, combined with a ring of evasion, work to pretty much make it so that you can't fail dex saves due to the armor? With the charges in the ring, I mean.
Although it doesn’t, if a PC were to want their character to emulate the Cap, yeah I’d allow it as DM... so homebrew rule yes, RAW no.
