Wondrous Item, very rare

This item consists of two lenses. The wearer fits them in front of his own eyes and eyelids, and they adhere themselves in place. The wearer may remove them at any time (1 action), but they resist any attempt to remove them against the wearer's will (Str check vs DC 20). The lenses are intended to be worn in matching pairs--wearing one provides none of the magical features or benefits, and in fact results in 1d6 of psychic damage per minute worn. When worn as a pair, either lens may be worn in either eye.

The Eye of Light causes the eye it is worn in front of to appear illuminated from various angles, as the eye of a cat. The Eye of Darkness causes the eye it is worn in front of to appear darkened, as if in constant shadow.

 

The wearer of a matched pair of Eyes of Light and Darkness may use the following at-will features:
  • The user may cast a Light spell at will (1 action). The light originates from the Eye of Light, although it does not interfere with the user's vision in any way. 
  • The user can see in normal darkness, even when no light source is present, as if it were normal light. This darkvision is only given to the eye with the Eye of Darkness--thus the user suffers a -2 to attack rolls and any other skill or ability checks or saves that rely on depth perception while using this feature. Note that a wearer who has darkvision granted to them by other means does not suffer this penalty, up to the range of their normal darkvision.
  • The user may cause small flames (no bigger than torch or lamp size) to stop emitting light (1 action per flame). The flame continues to burn, but no light is emitted for 1 minute.
  • The wearer suffers no vision penalties caused by bright light (such as the blindness caused by the Sunbeam spell, or the daylight penalties suffered by Drow), and cannot be blinded by magical means. The wearer still suffers radiance damage as normal, and physical damage to the wearer's eyes can still cause blindness.
By spending charges, the user may use the following features as well:
  • 1 charge: the user may cast Darkness as the spell. The darkness is centered on the Eye of Darkness, and the user may dispel this magical darkness at will. While in magical darkness created by the Eyes (not magical darkness from other sources), the wearer sees as if in normal light. 
  • 1 charge: the user may dispel magical darkness created by another source.
  • 2 charges: the user may cast Daylight as the spell.
  • 4 charges: the user may cast Sunbeam as the spell, with a duration of 1 round. The Eye of Light, rather than the caster's hand, glows during this use, and is the origin of the beam.
